Working with WordPress
So far so good has been my experience working with wordpress as my website’s CMS. Then again I haven’t done much as implement my own theme and twicked the php code a little bit here and there. Mostly removing unnecessary code that I don’t want or need for the website posts. So far the most enjoying part has been obviously creating my own theme and not using the standard theme that comes with all wordpress installs. The theme I’m using for this site is based on the colors that I saw from this two Aztec plates or dishes.
I had not used or seen those colors before used together and I thought it represented simplicity. Simplicity was definitely a word that I’ve been basing a lot of what I do in design and in life, so this colors were a good start for me to use.
The hierarchal system that wordpress uses is very simple to understand when you are looking for the different functions of the system. For example when I wanted to twick some of the functionality of the comments section, all I had to look for was in the comments.php file contained in my theme folder. One thing I’ve yet to mention that I used Elliot Jay Stocks starkers theme for wordpress to help me start from scratch. The theme strips out any sort of style and lets you start styling your theme from scratch. I replaced his reset stylesheet with the universal selector * and reset margin and padding for all selectors, thats just my preference.
To conclude but not really, I’ve still got a lot to build, twick and fix on this theme that will most likely trigger me to write another post on my experience working with wordpress. Peace out!
